Customer Service is For Everyday! by Bernard Smalls

“Thank God It’s Sunday!”

As I said in an earlier blog, I am sharing sections of my book entitled Thank God It's Sunday - The Gospel of Customer Service for a season. Enjoy as you read. by the way, it is available at www.amazon.com

By the way, this book really has nothing to do with religion as most people understand religion. It’s really about the true religion of being kind to others and serving them with excellence in every way, whether at home or work or the marketplace or the church or the synagogue or even in the world of entertainment. So relax! If you are a coffee drinker, I want you to know that great coffee and this book are extremely compatible. ☺Read and enjoy, while I introduce you to some everyday people and profound concepts that will bring to you true wealth and greatness through service.

…IT’S SUNDAY!

Joseph Simple and his friend, Zack Billiard, pulled up in Joe’s new BMW to the contemporary corporate headquarters building to see a mass of excited people passing through the large, beautiful entry into the butterfly shaped pavilion. Some were wearing jeans and some wore shorts, while others were conservatively casual. They were young, elderly, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, you name it. This place is the best diversity training I have ever had, thought Joe.

The one constant that captured Joe’s attention was the enthusiasm they all seemed to have. After they were seated, the band started playing some upbeat contemporary music and Joe leaned over and said to his friend Zack, “This is different.” Zack just looked at him with a big smile and said, “Thanks for coming with me today Joe.” They sang three songs along with the band and then the minister, who was comfortably but well dressed in a dark blue sports coat with a black turtleneck, came to the pulpit and sat down. After a young, attractive teenaged soloist had finished her song, the minister stood up and said to the congregation, “Good morning and welcome to our service!” The minister then said to the congregation, “Now let’s all say ‘TGIS’ which means THANK GOD IT’S SUNDAY!” After this affirmation you could hear light laughter and enthusiastic chuckles ignite throughout the beautiful non-religious church auditorium. People obviously felt good about being there. The minister then proclaimed, “Today’s sermon is entitled, The Gospel of Customer Service. My thesis is The Call to Wealth.” As he opened his message, he asked the crowd, “Did you know that the word gospel literally means good news or a good message? The good news is that excellent customer service is not just for Sunday. It’s for everyday!”
